ABOUT
Each tapestry is made by hand, often outside on the deck, with paint that soaks straight into the unprimed canvas. I let the ocean, the wind, and the stillness pass through — they become part of the piece.
I’m drawn to folk traditions, weathered textures, and ancient forms. I work with a grounded palette: black, burnt red, ochre, deep brown, and the natural tone of the canvas — colors that remind me of old walls, earth pigments, and sun-aged cloth.
I think of these works as modern cave paintings — slow, textured, and a little bit ancient. They live with me before they live with anyone else: drying under sun or stars, shifting with the tide and the wind. Each piece carries its own rhythm.

If you’d like to know when something new is released, I send out occasional emails called Low Tide Letters — with first access to new work, thoughts from the sea, and pieces that might not end up anywhere else.

I’m Sia Arnell — a Swedish artist living and working aboard my sailboat, painting slowly on raw canvas as I move through the Mediterranean.
My work starts with an impression or motif, and I let the rest take shape as I work. Some pieces are quiet and minimal, others feel like whole stories held in fabric - pressed from within, and drawn from what surrounds me.
